R&B and doo-wop ensemble founded as "Pookie Hudson & The Hudsonaires" in 1952, Gary, Indiana, U.S.A.
Under the name The Spaniels they were one of the first acts to sign with [l34488] in 1953. When the label went bankrupt in 1966, the group split up, only to reunite in 1969. At one point, two groups called The Spaniels that grew from the original formation existed simultaneously: one still in Gary and one in Washington D.C. (including lead singer Pookie Hudson).
Their line up changed numerous times throughout the years, but the original members were:
Thornton James "Pookie" Hudson (lead),
Ernest Warren (first tenor),
Opal Courtney (baritone),
Willis C. Jackson (baritone),
Gerald Gregory (bass).
